Why separating your muck pays for itself

The gap between inert and mixed tipping rates is bigger than most people realise.

Close up of soil and gravel

Landfill tax is charged at two rates. Inert material such as clean soil and hardcore is taxed at a few pounds a tonne. Mixed waste is taxed at well over a hundred.

On a sixteen tonne grab load that difference runs into four figures. It is the single largest variable in what a muck away job costs, and it is entirely within your control on site.

Keeping the clean dig separate from general site waste takes very little effort and the saving is immediate. One contaminated item is enough to reclassify a whole load, so it is worth being strict about it.

If you are not sure how to separate on a tight site, ring us. We would rather help you set it up than send you an invoice you were not expecting.
